Job Description

Long term position in Lansing, MI 

GDI is seeking a Business Analyst to assist with multiple initiatives and operational support activities for our client, dept. of education at the State of MI. This is a full-time position with GDI and selected candidates may expect salary up to ***,000 with excellent benefits such as BCBS health insurance from day 1.
Job Duties:

  1. Operational Support: The Business Analyst will be managing work requests to support operational support needs for web applications. This role is the liaison between the technical team and the business client. These are non-critical systems for MDE. This will be about 50% of the time for this resource.
  2. Research: The Business Analyst will research for the modernization of the current Educator Certification system. Responsibilities will include research of existing solutions within the educational business sector and documenting high level business requirements. Information learned from research will determine roadmap for a new solution. This position may have a role in the project for the new solution, as well as a Lean Process Improvement assessment. This will be about 25% of the time for this resource.
  3. System Security Plans: The Business Analyst will support the completion of System Security plans (SSP) for new projects and existing projects, using the State’s enterprise tool. Responsibilities include collaboration with the business clients and security liaison to analyze and complete the security controls (based on NIST standards). This will be about 25% of the time for this resource.


Required/Desired Skills

  • 5 years’ experience as a Business Analyst working in a professional, large organization
  • 5 years’ experience in conducting meetings, communicating at a level appropriate to the audience, making oral and written reports and presentations                       
  • 3 years’ experience in completing targeted research and documenting results
  • 3 years’ experience in a role, as a business analyst, supporting a software development project
  • 3 years’ experience working as a liaison between the development team and project manager or business client in a software development project
  • Solid knowledge and understanding of the Software Development Lifecycle
  • Project management skills and knowledge in project management and related methodologies is desired
  • Experience with Microsoft SharePoint is desired
  • Experience with Microsoft Team Foundation Server or DevOps, using Work Item Tracking is desired
  • Knowledge of System Security Standards, such as NIST, FedRAMP or SOCC2 is desired
